Nursery Education Grant Funding for 3 - 4 year oldsChildcare Directory

Free Childcare for Training and Learning for Work is a new government scheme that pays for free Ofsted registered childcare for parents wanting to learn new skills or train for a better job.

Being a parent is a highly skilled job. However many parents would welcome the opportunity to learn new skills or build on existing ones to help create a better future for their family. But trying to do both hasn’t always been easy – until now. They've just made learning much easier.

This scheme can help increase employment prospects and is offered to parents aged 20 years or over with a child or children aged 14 or under (18 or under for children with disabilities).

Firstly choose the course you want to do and then choose the right childcare for your child.

There are lots of great courses to choose from and many of them are free. Most courses will fit easily around your day-to-day life. There is also no minimum or maximum length for each course. And when one finishes, you can do another to help you find a job that’s just right. So whether you want to brush up on your maths, train for something specific like nursing, or turn an interest such as DIY into a new career, the Careers Advice Service can help.

For free impartial advice on suitable courses and training opportunities, call them on 0800 100 900.

You need to have total peace of mind while you learn or train so you choose the childcare you trust, based on the individual needs of your child or children. For some guidelines on how to choose the right childcare for your child have a look at our How to Choose page. Also, to make it easier, they will pay the childcare provider directly so you don't have to worry.

Up to £175 per child per week (£215 in London boroughs) will be paid to your chosen childcare provider to ensure your children enjoy the experience as much as you do.

So are you eligible?

The handy checklist below will help you see if you can take part in the scheme.
